🎼 A little over four years ago, I put the call out about wanting to start a Chapter of Women in Music in Atlanta. . A few weeks later, six women met me at a restaurant to learn more, and we officially launched WIM Atlanta. . @womeninmusic at its core is about supporting women in the musical arts and has been since 1985. 🎼 . ....because it takes a tribe. . It takes the contact at the label that takes that call to explain what the contract really means. The contact at the radio station who takes 2 minutes to listen to your demo, or gives it that spin. That spin that just might be your #1 single. The girl or guy at the management office who gets you in that opening spot even if it’s just your friends in the audience because they get that you’re figuring it out...and the list goes on. It takes a tribe. . Women in Music has been that tribe for me. In a million ways. I am so grateful for the opportunity to not only have connected with them when I first moved to New York but to have had the opportunity to launch and build the Chapter in Atlanta with some incredibly inspiring women. 🎼 I remember the day I took off for New York from Atlanta, not calling my friends until on the drive up to tell them I was moving. I didn’t want to jinx it!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Hit the big city with just two friends there at the time. I wanted to live there so bad and I was gonna find a way. Luckily, I found a job a week later and the rest is history; or rather, it was just getting started. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When I joined @womeninmusic 🎼, it was less than 200 members at the time and it was just one org based out of New York. I was working at a record label and one of my friends, @evangerules heard that the current board (@lindalcritelli 🙌🏻) was looking for a new team and named the date/time for us to show if we were interested.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 13 of us arrived that night and about an hour later, we all became the new board. We also became family. @evangerules , @stephaniechall , @laurenv33 , @michelleisbusy.⁣⁣ 🙏🏻 ⁣⁣ Our mission was (and is) to support women in music. Whether it was an artist, a manager, a publicist, etc it didn’t matter, the point was It was all about supporting each other. Sisterhood. It’s volunteer based, we’d meet after work, on the weekends, etc. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I had connected with my tribe and New York quickly went from big city, to home.⁣ (cont. in comments 👇🏻)
